Officer Isaac Kidwell and probationary Officer George Geisler were walking their beats when they stopped to question a female at Fifteenth and Clark. She had just seperated from two men on a streetcar, one of whom jumped off of the car and the officers followed him to a residence at 1428 Clark Avenue. Both officers followed the man into the residence with Officer Kidwell in the lead. Shots suddenly rang out and the officers returned fire. Officer Kidwell fell to the ground wounded in the abdomen, left shoulder, left thigh and right ankle. Officer George Geisler sustained a gunshot wound to the groin. The suspect, Adolph D. Fuller, 30, escaped the residence. Both officers were transported to City Hospital. Officer Kidwell succumbed to his injuries at 12:50 am. Fuller was arrested and confessed to the shooting and the gun was recovered.

Officer Kidwell was survived by his wife, Mary. Interred: Valhalla Cemetery, St Louis, MO.
