Police Officer Blake Snyder was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call.
On October 6, 2016, at shortly 5:00 am, Officer Snyder responded to a disturbance involving a male subject banging on a home's front door in the 10700 block of Arno Drive in Green Park, Missouri. As Officer Snyder arrived at the scene he encountered the suspect seated in a vehicle and gave him directions because he couldn't see his hands. The suspect produced a handgun and fired on Officer Snyder, striking him in the chin, killing Officer Snyder instantly. A second officer arriving at the scene returned fire and wounded the 18 year-old suspect who was apprehended, charged with first-degree murder and held on a one million dollar bond. The suspect was tried and sentenced to life in prison for the murder.
Officer Snyder served with the St. Louis County Police Department for four years. He is survived by his wife and 2-year-old son. Interment: Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey, IL.
On November 2016, Clydesdale Park was renamed Officer Blake C. Snyder Park in his honor. Additionally, in August 2018, I-30 between Highway 21 to Highway P was renamed Officer Snyder Memorial Highway.
