North Kansas City Police Officer Daniel Vasquez was shot and killed during a traffic stop.

On July 19, 2022, at approximately 10:40 am, Officer Daniel Vasquez, 32, effected a traffic stop with a vehicle for expired tags near 21st Avenue and Clay Street. Investigators said the driver exited the vehicle and opened fire on Officer Vasquez. Officer Vasquez was wounded by the suspect and was transported to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment where he died from his injuries.

The suspect fled the scene but surrendered himself several hours later to the Kansas City, Missouri Police. The 24 year-old suspect was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Interred: White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone, Missouri.
