Trooper Donald Floyd was struck and killed by a vehicle while making a traffic stop.
On September 22, 2005 at 12:21 pm, Trooper Floyd was working a speed enforcement detail in conjunction with one of the agency's aircraft on U.S. 60, near Route MM, in Texas County. After making an initial contact with the driver of the vehicle, Trooper Floyd began to return to his patrol car when he was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. Trooper Floyd was airlifted to St. John's Hospital where he died at 1:33 pm.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Trooper Floyd pled guilty to 2nd degree manslaughter and received a two-year suspended sentence.
Trooper Floyd was assigned to Troop G, Zone 8, and had served with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 21 years. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter. Interred: Boone Creek Cemetery Licking, Texas County, Missouri.
