Detective George Lawson was shot and killed when he attempted to arrest robbery suspects.

On March 7, 1924 Detective George E. Lawson and Officer E. T. Roberts were attempting to arrest two men who had just robbed the Faultless Laundry at 1401 Woodland Avenue when the men ran. Lawson reached the men a few seconds before Roberts and called for them to halt. The men turned and fired on Detective Lawson fatally wounding him. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at St Luke's Hospital.

On March 8th, Detectives Charles Bland and Louis Myers entered a rooming house in an attempt to arrest D. C. Morris for the murder of Detective Lawson as Detective Fisher guarded a rear door. D. C. Morris opened fire on the detectives wounding each of them in the arms. Detective Fisher fired five shots instantly killing Morris. A second suspect, George Whitfield, was apprehended and returned from Omaha to face charges.

Detective Lawson, a Mason, was survived by his wife, Marie. Interred: Mount Moriah Cemetery.
