Officer Gerald Fackert was fatally injured when his police motorcycle collided with a truck.

Officer Fackert and another mortorcycle officer, Russell Fisk, were seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with bakery truck at Robert Gilham Road and Troost Avenue. Officer Fackert was driving at the time of the accident and Officer Fisk was riding in the sidecar. Officer Fackert was in shock, had sustained a crushed right leg and later died at General Hospital.

Officer Fackert joined the department August 5, 1919 and previously sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident after serving for three months. He was survived by his father, Oscar, and mother, Elizabeth.
