On September 28, 2021, Sergeant Matthew Logan Davis died at Missouri Baptist Hospital from complications of COVID-19 while performing his duties at the County Jail at 220 S Shepherd Street in Ironton, Missouri.

Sergeant Davis had served with the Iron County Sheriff's Office for 13 years and was soon to be promoted to chief deputy. He was survived by his wife and daughter.
