District Administrator Debra Collins was killed in an automobile accident on US 67 near Fredericktown, Missouri, while en route to Poplar Bluff for a meeting.

Her vehicle ran off the road and overturned in a ditch causing her to suffer fatal injuries.

District Administrator Collins had served with the Missouri Department of Corrections, Board of Probation and Parole for 25 years. She is survived by her husband and two sons.

Deputy Marshal John Perry was shot and killed at a home on Osage Street in St. Louis, Missouri, while serving a warrant.

At approximately 6:50 am, Deputy Marshal Perry along with approximately ten other U.S. Marshals and St. Louis police officers, went to the suspect's home to serve a felony warrant for assault on a law enforcement officer and drug possession. The officers were able to remove several children from the home before beginning their search for the suspect. As the officers were conducting the search, the suspect opened fire, striking one deputy marshal and one St. Louis police officer. In a second exchange of gunfire, a second deputy marshal was shot and the suspect was shot and killed.

Deputy Marshal Perry was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds later in the day.

Deputy Marshal Perry had served with the United States Marshals Service for 10 years, first in Washington, DC, and then in St. Louis, and had previously served 16 years as a probation officer for the Madison County Probation and Court Services Department.

Police officer Daryl Hall was tragically killed as the result of gunshot injuries sustained while involved in an off-duty incident. He was 34 years old.

At around 2:38 a.m. police responded to an Officer Involved Shooting at 800 S. 4th Street, the parking lot of the Black Label Nightclub, where Officer Hall was a patron. According to witnesses, an altercation between other patrons inside the nightclub erupted and those patrons were escorted from the nightclub. Witnesses stated after the altercation was moved outside onto the parking lot, the suspect retrieved a handgun and began firing shots.

According to witnesses, when Officer Hall heard the gunshots, while still inside the nightclub, he went outside to investigate. Witnesses also stated, that Officer Hall observed the suspect firing a handgun and announced that he was a police officer and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect refused and gunfire was exchanged between Officer Hall, the suspect and a person providing security for the nightclub.

Officer Hall suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the neck and one to the bicep. Officer Hall was transported to St. Louis University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m.

The 30-year old suspect was struck by gunfire multiple times and in various parts of the body. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and his weapon was recovered at the scene.

Officer Hall joined the department in November of 2005 as a Civilian Recruit in Training. On July 13, 2006, he graduated from the St. Louis Police Academy as a commissioned St. Louis Police Officer.

Master Patrolman Jeff Taylor succumbed to injuries sustained on May 23, 2011, while assisting with tornado disaster response efforts in Joplin, Missouri.

Patrolman Taylor had just returned to a command post on a department ATV to drop off another first responder when a bolt of lightning struck next to where he was standing. Other public safety officers on the scene immediately began CPR and stabilized him for transport to the hospital.

He was transferred to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, where he remained until succumbing to his injuries on June 3, 2011.

Patrolman Taylor had served with the Riverside Police Division for six years and had previously served with the Webb City Police Department and Platte County Sheriff's Office.

Trooper Fred Guthrie and his canine, Reed, were presumed drowned after being swept into flood waters in the area of Routes 118 and 111 in Holt County. Trooper Guthrie was on river flood patrol duty when another patrol unit discovered his patrol truck idling on the road at about 3:00 pm, with his patrol boat still on its trailer.

A massive search was initiated but neither Trooper Guthrie nor K9 Reed could be located. The search was officially changed to a recovery effort later that evening. K9 Reed's body was recovered Tuesday evening while Trooper Guthrie remained missing.

On January 12, 2012 Trooper Guthrie's body was recovered in a brush pile south of where K-9 Reed was found months earlier, near the original search site.

Trooper Guthrie had served with the Missouri State Water Patrol for 17 years until the agency was merged into the Missouri State Highway Patrol in January 2011. He was assigned to the Highway Patrol's Water Division when the incident occurred.

Trooper Guthrie is survived by his wife and three children. He is the 30th member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to die in the line of duty.

Patrolman Evan Burns was struck and killed by a stolen vehicle while attempting to deploy spike strips during a pursuit shortly after 12:30 am.

Deputies from the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office had started pursuing a stolen SUV on I-55 that was being driven by a man wanted for an assault. The vehicle exited at Highway 84 and started driving towards Caruthersville.

Patrolman Burns and another officer began to setup spike strips on the roadway. When the stolen vehicle approached he struck the first police car, injuring the officer, and then rammed the SUV broadside into Patrolman Burns' vehicle, killing him.

The driver was arrested and faces murder and assault charges.

Patrolman Burns had served with the Caruthersville Police Department for two years. He is survived by his 1-year-old son.

Chief of Police Jerry Hicks succumbed to injuries sustained six days earlier when his patrol car collided with a tree at the intersection of Route 8 and Railroad Road, in Washington County, at about 6:30 am.

He was driving to the Potosi Correctional Center to pickup an inmate work crew when the vehicle slid on a patch of ice on a highway bridge, causing it to leave the roadway. The vehicle collided with the tree on the passenger side.

Chief Hicks was flown to a hospital in Creve Couer, where he remained unconscious until succumbing to severe head injuries.

Chief Hicks was a U.S. Army Reserves and U.S. Navy veteran and had served in law enforcement for 25 years. Prior to joining the Leadwood Police Department, he had served with the St. Francois County Sheriff's Office, Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff's Office, and the Elvins Police Department. He is survived by his two adult children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
