On April 25, 1885 , Marshal Henry Jeans was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect.

Marshal Jeans, Benton County Sheriff Newell and Deputy Bibb went to Krensky's restaurant in Warsaw, Missouri to arrest Joe Eaton on an indictment issued by the grand jury for carrying a concealed weapon and found him there at 6:20 am waiting for his breakfast. All the officers entered the room and Deputy Bibbs was put forward as spokesman. Deputy Bibbs pulled out the warrant and stated to Eaton that he had a warrant for his arrest. Eaton jumped up and ran out the front door of the restaurant where he turned and drew his pistol and began firing on the officers. The first round fired struck Marshal Jeans in the right temple and exited his left temple killing him instantly. Eaton sustained a gunshot wound exiting his back. He was taken into the restaurant where he was examined by a doctor who believed his wound would be fatal. Eaton was then taken to the jail where at his request his brother was summoned. He gave his brother final instructions on his burial and his belongings and died. It was determined that Eaton's fatal wound had been inflicted by Marshal Jeans before he was killed.

Henry Clay Jeans had been the marshal of Warsaw for six years and was described as being a very efficient officer and very popular wherever he went. Interred: Warsaw City Cemetery.
