On February 8, 1946, City of Sullivan Marshal Herman E. Weirich was on duty when he was seriously injured when the vehicle he was traveling in was struck by a Frisco train at the main street railway crossing, east of the depot, spinning it into a telegraph pole. Marshal Weirich died from head injuries four days later at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St Louis.

Marshal Weirich had been Marshal of Sullivan for approximately one year. Marshal Weirich previously served as Boone Township Constable and has served as a law enforcement officer in Franklin County for twenty years. He was survived by a daughter and a son. Interred: Ficke-McAllister Cemetery, Franklin County, Missouri.
