Deputy Constable Edward Poulsen was shot and killed during a traffic stop.

On May 20, 1923 at approximately 10:30 am, Deputy Poulsen pulled over a car with four occupants for speeding on Jennings Road about 100 feet north of North Florissant. As he stood next to the car writing the ticket, one of the occupants opened fire striking Deputy Poulsen in the head, chest and shoulder. Deputy Poulsen was able to return fire and strike the suspect in the abdomen. The suspect, Frank Glammanco, was arrested at the hospital were he was taken after being shot by Deputy Poulsen. Deputy Constable Poulsen died at the scene. Suspect Glammanco also died of his injury the next day.

Deputy Constable Poulsen (46), born in Denmark, was survived by his wife, Elline and six children. He was the son of Niels and Martea Poulsen. Interred: Memorial Park Cemetery, Jennings, MO.
