Officer Johnnie Corbin was intentionally struck down by the driver of a car.

On June 4, 1985, Officer Corbin had issued a $4.00 street cleaning violation to the suspect in the 1700 block of Leffingwell. Officer Corbin then drove his tri-car unit further down the street. The suspect got into his car and intentionally drove into Officer Corbin's tri-car at a high rate of speed. The suspect then got out of his car and began kicking Officer Corbin until a bystander subdued him and held him for police.

The suspect was sentenced to life in prison. In March of 2014 the 72-year-old subject was denied parole for the sixth time. His next parole hearing was set for February of 2018.

Officer Corbin entered the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Academy on 08/28/1967. Upon graduation from the academy Officer Corbin was assigned to the following Districts and Divisions throughout his career. They were the 4Th, 2Nd, Mobile Reserve Section, and the Traffic Safety Division. During his career he was awarded 1 Chief's Letter of Commendation on 03/16/1982, and 1 Meritorious Service Citation on 12/13/1974 for extraordinary bravery intelligently performed in the Line of Duty at imminent and personal danger to life, the police department's highest honor. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was survived by his mother and daughter.
