Officer Bingham was killed in a motorcycle accident at Kingshighway and Terry Avenue.

On October 21, 1937 at about 7:27 pm, Officer Bingham was driving his police motorcycle south on Kingshighway when a vehicle attempted to turn left in front of Officer Bingham onto Terry Avenue, causing the collision. Officer Bingham was taken to DePaul Hospital where he died the next day, on October 22nd at 5:00 pm, from his injuries including a fractured skull and internal injuries.

Officer Bingham had been with the the police department for one year and was survived by his wife and two children.
