Officer Stussie succumbed to injuries received the day before when he was struck by a truck belonging to the Ely Walker Dry Goods Company driven by Walter Holtman while crossing the street at Sixteenth and Locust. Holtman stated that he was making a left turn on Sixteenth to go north when the accident occurred. Officer Stussie sustained a skull fracture and injuries to the left side of his scalp and forehead. He died of his injuries early the next morning. Holtman was charged with felonious wounding.

Officer Stussie had been with the agency for five years and was survived by his wife, Loretta, and five sons. Interred: Calvary Cemetery.
