Sergeant Adolph Kreidler was shot and killed while interceding in an armed robbery.

On September 28, 1931 at about 10:45 pm, Sergeant Kreidler, a desk sergeant of the Magnolia Avenue Police Station, was dressed in civilian attire and wearing a police badge as he boarded a People's Motorbus Company bus. Just relieved from his duty as a desk sergeant he took the fourth seat from the rear on the right side of the upper deck. At Grand and Meramec Hubert Harvey boarded the bus and sat three seats behind Sergeant Kreidler. As the bus reached Osceola the conductor went to the upper deck to collect Harvey's fare. As the conductor asked Harvey for his fare, Harvey reached into his pocket and pulled out a revolver. He pushed the revolver into the conductor's ribs and directed him to keep quiet. Sergeant Kreidler heard Harvey's threat and knew he would have to act. Sergeant Kreidler grabbed the suspect attempting to disarm him. During the struggle the pistol discharged striking Sergeant Kreidler in the leg. As Sergeant Kreidler fell back suspect Harvey placed his pistol in the back of his head and fired twice, killing him instantly. Suspect Harvey jumped from the bus as it reached Osceola Street and ran down an alley. Suspect Harvey's hat and gun were later found in an ash pit in the rear of 3554 Osceola Street. Suspect Harvey was arrested and confessed to Sergeant Kreidler's murder. The suspect was sentenced to life in prison and died there of pneumonia on November 7, 1937.

Sergeant Kreidler was assigned as the desk sergeant of Magnolia Avenue Station. He served with the police department for 31 years and was survived by his wife, Christine, and a daughter.
