Officer Cook, of the Motorcycle Squad, succumbed to injuries received the previous day when he was involved in a motorcycle accident while responding to a robbery call at a filling station at Carrie and Florissant when he drove his motorcycle onto the Union Avenue Viaduct when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a curb throwing him to the ground. Officer Cook suffered extensive injuries including a broken back, a fractured skull, a dislocated hip and lacerations to his head and body. He died the day after the accident at St. Luke's Hospital.

Officer Cook had been with the agency for 21 months, joining the department in 1926. He was survived by his wife,Lucille,0 and an infant daughter. Interred: Calvalry Cemetery.
