Officer Frank Kohring died from injuries sustained during an altercation when he arrested a man for public drunkeness.

On February 17, 1926, Officer Kohring succumbed to injuries sustained several days earlier when he was kicked by a drunk man he was attempted to arrest near Cass Street and 18th Street. Officer Kohring arrested John Maloney for public drunkeness while patrolling his beat. The twenty-seven year old Maloney kicked Officer Kohring in the left leg several times during the arrest. After several days Officer Kohring's legs began to swell. Officer Kohring's autopsy revealed that he contracted aortic stenosis as a result of the injuries leading to his death. The suspect was convicted of public drunkenness and fined five dollars.

Frank Kohring joined the police department on May 26, 1891 and patrolled the same beat in the third precinct of the North Market Street Disctrict his entire career. He was survived by his brother, John Kohring Jr., of the same address. His parents emigrated from Germany. Interred: St Peters Cemetery.
