Officer William Anderson was shot and killed while outside of a known criminal hangout on Vandeventer Avenue just south of Natural Bridge at 5:45 am. His body was found with five gunshot wounds to the back of his head, back, and neck. When discovered, Officer Anderson still had his gloves on and his pistol was still holstered. Many people were questioned without success and a $1,000 reward failed to generate any useful information. No suspects were ever identified or apprehended.

Officer Anderson had been with the agency for 25 years and was survived by his wife, Lida, and two children. Interred: Calvary Cemetery.
