Special Officer Charles Daly was shot and killed when he attempted to take action as he was being robbed.

Special Officer Daly had just arrived in front of his home at 4021 Forest Park after getting off duty when a suspect ordered him to put up his hands. As Officer Daly attempted to draw his weapon from his pocket, the suspect shot him in the stomach. A struggle ensued and Officer Daly was shot again, in his left thigh. Officer Daly finally extricated his revolver from his pocket and fired three times at the fleeing robber. Officer Daly was taken to St. John's Hospital where he died shortly after at 6:20 pm.

Officer Daly's wife reported that Officer Daly was the victim of a similar attack about 6 weeks before when several suspects followed him home from a Sarah streetcar and attacked him. Mrs. Daly ran to her husband's aid on that occasion, drew his revolver from her husband's pocket and the suspects fled. No connection was made between the attacks.

Special Officer Daly was a member of the Secret Service Bureau. He was survived by his wife, Josephine. Interred: Calvary Cemetery, St Louis, MO.
