Special Officers Moller and Preston Anslyn both of the Secret Service Bureau were shot and killed in front of 3868-70 Juniata while following two burglary suspects. They indicated they were going to the bottoms to arrest two burglars. They were overhead saying they were going to trail them to their headquarters and call a wagon. The only witness to the shooting stated that he saw Detective Moller standing in a dark doorway on Grand just south of Juniata. The witness heard Detectives Moller and Anslyn talking identifying two men on the far side of the street as being the suspects noting the limp of one man. The suspects turned west on Juniata and the detectives followed them unnoticed. Then the suspects turned into 3868-70 Juniata and vanished into the shadows. The detectives waited then approached the house and two shots were fired. Both detectives fell dead from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Officers responded a few moments later responding to a sound of shots call.

Special Officer Anslyn was a Spanish-American War veteran and had been with the agency for ten years. His father was born in Holland and his mother born in Canada. He was survived by his wife, Minnie. Interred: Calvary Cemetery.
