Officer August Schwind, assigned to the Mounted Patrol, was succumbed to injuries sustained when he was thrown from his horse in Forest Park.

Officer Schwind was returning to the Forest Park station when his horse began to gallop north on Jefferson Drive. As he tried to get control of the horse and turn west on Clayton Road he was thrown and suffered a fractured skull. He was taken to Barnes Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries four hours later.

Officer Schwind had been with the agency for 21 years. He was survived by his wife. Interred: New St. Marcus Cemetery.
