Patrolmen James Lamb and John Blair were shot and killed while attempting to arrest gamblers.

On December 6, 1913 at 4:45 pm, Patrolman Lamb and Patrolman John Blair were attempting to arrest three males who had been firing guns in the Frenchtown section of St. Charies on the Wabash tracks near Randolph and Fourth Streets when they became involved in an exchange of gunfire. Patrolman Lamb was able to kill one of the suspects. A posse overtook and captured the other two a short time later ten miles east of St. Charles City. Patrolman Blair died at the scene from injuries including a gunshot wound to the jaw, another severed his jugular, another entered his chest and another entered his abdomen. Patrolman Lamb died at St Joseph's Hospital Sunday morning, December 7th at 1:15 am from gunshot wounds to his shoulder and the back of his head.

Patrolman Lamb, a Freemason, was with the agency for 20 years. He was survived by his wife and three children. Interred: United Methodist Cemetery, St. Charles, MO.

Patrolman Blair was survived by his wife. Interred: Briscoe Cemetery, Lincoln County.
