Marshal William Kitson was shot and killed by burglary suspects while he was investigating suspicious activity.

Marshal Kitson was shot and fatally wounded after surprising burglary suspects. Marshal Kitson received fatal gunshot wounds to the chest and right side. His body was found at 6:40 the next morning about a half a block from the liquor store, lying in a machinery lot with his gun still in his hand. Two suspects were apprehended shortly thereafter, one of which had sustained a gunshot wound in the abdomen, delivered by the dying Marshal Kitson.

Marshal Kitson's killer was convicted of his murder and sentenced to life.

Marshal Kitson had been with the agency for three years and is survived by his wife, Ollie Faye, and six children.
