City Marshal Gasche suffered a heart attack when a man he was arresting for burglary resisted arrest.

On February 7, 1971, Marshal Gasche attempted to stop a car driven by a man wanted for burglary of Stell's Liquor Store in Monett. The suspect attempted to tried to evade the marshal and the pursuit ended in front of the man's house. As the two men scuffled, the noise brought two men to the aid of the marshal. The marshal had the men handcuff the suspect as he tried to get up from the ground he simply laid over in the snow and died at the scene. It was later determined he had suffered a fatal heart attack.

The men helping the marshal called for help and the four responding officers found the handcuffed suspect, Hugh Harvill, inside the house.

City Marshal Gasche was elected marshal 14 years prior to his death. He also held a commission as a Lawrence County, Missouri Deputy Sheriff. He had served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was survived by his wife, Pearl, and a daughter. Interred: Pierce City Cemetery, Pierce City, Missouri.
