On March 30, 2010 Sergeant Ross, while on duty, participated in the funeral detail/procession for a fallen officer. As Sergeant Ross returned from the funeral detail, he suffered a massive heart attack and his vehicle left the road way. Sergeant Ross was transported to a local hospital and died on April 8, due to his medical condition.

Sergeant Ross became a police officer in January 1978 after serving with distinction in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was survived his by wife, Margie, and his children, Lori Davis, Charlene Hall, Gregory Ross, Mark Kersten, George Ross, Andrea, Ross, Mollie Ross, Bryan Mayo, Daniel Craden, his nine grandchildren, brother, brother-in-law, and cousin. His civic activities included the Moolah Shrine, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Spirit Lodge AFAM & Legion Post 103. Interred: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Oakville, St Louis County.
