Officer Harold Reeves was shot and killed in a dispute over a dog.

On July 10, 1976, Officer Reeves was on routine patrol when he stopped at an intersection and a pickup truck pulled up beside him. The right front passenger of the truck, Walter Crump, 77, shot Officer Reeves once in the head. The truck was driven by a fifteen year old grandson of the suspect. The suspect was reportedly upset that Officer Reeves told the suspect's girlfriend to keep the dog tied up. The suspect, Walter Crump, 77, was taken into custody.

The killer was committed to the state hospital for six months and then released.

Officer Reeves was a WWII Army veteran and served with the police department for three years. He was previously employed for twelve years as a truck driver for the Navajo Freight Lines. He was survived by three brothers. Interred: Maple Hill Cemetery.
