Officer Bennie Hudson was shot and killed by robbery suspects.

On the evening of November 24th, 1960, Officer Hudson was dispatched on a robbery call at 5261 NE Antioch Road and upon his arrival, he encountered three men armed with guns in the parking lot of the Antioch Shopping Center. He and the other officer that responded to the scene were caught in a gun battle with the suspects, and Officer Hudson was mortally wounded, shot in the chest piercing his heart and also in each leg. Two of the suspects fled the scene and the third suspect confessed to officers that caught him a short time later. The other two suspects were apprehended at a later date.

All three suspects, LeRoy Lee Larson, Jack Lynn Hodge and Billy Miles, were convicted of Patrolman Hudson's murder and sentenced to life on February 11, 1961.

Officer Hudson, 22, had served at the Kansas City Police Department for nine days and previously served in the National Guard for three years. He was survived by his wife, Joyce Hudson. Interred: Stockton Cemetery, Cedar County, Missouri.
