On July 4, 1945, Officer Huff was en route to 31st and Van Brunt Blvd. to monitor Independence Day traffic when he lost control of his motorcycle at 47th and Benton and struck the curb. The impact threw him over the handle bars and into a utility pole. Officer Huff died from his injuries at the scene.

Officer Huff, 26, was survived by his wife, Juanita. Interred: Braymer, Missouri.
