Deputy Mark Griffin was shot and killed after responding to a domestic dispute.

Deputy Griffin was shot and killed after he and Deputy Altes responded with a woman to a Trenton apartment on Seventh Street to bring in her boyfriend who was wanted for questioning in regard to a disturbance that occurred earlier in the day. The woman went inside while the deputies waited at the door. The suspect asked the deputies if he could get a coat in order to accompany them to the jail. As the deputies followed the man into the apartment a second man shot Deputy Griffin in the face with a rifle, killing him. The suspect fired on Deputy Altes several times striking him once in the shoulder. Deputy Altes went to Sidel's Car Dealership where he telephoned for help and returned to the scene. The suspect was apprehended approximately six hours later.

Deputy Griffin had been with the agency for over two years. He was survived by his parents and sister. Interred: Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
