On July 10, 1909, Marshal Henry Rickey succumbed to gunshot wounds received the previous day while investigating a robbery.
On July 9, 1909, Marshal Rickey and his son were notified of two men acting suspiciously in the railroad yards. The men had just robbed Reynolds Clothing Store of 13 suits. The suspects were spotted behind a pile of ties and Marshal Rickey climbed the railroad ties and ordered them to surrender. The suspects fired several shots at him and Marshal Rickey was struck in the abdomen. He died from the wounds the next day. Two suspects were arrested
Marshal Rickey, 64, was elected city marshal the previous April.
